About this website

This website is for everyone who’s interested in exploring topics that will help them to move forward in life. They include presence, acceptance, peace of mind, inspiration, connection, vision, attraction, creativity and a strong sense of purpose. The river metaphor has a long history. The Tao Te Ching tells us that “Tao in the world is like a river flowing home to the sea.” In the Bhagavad-Gita, Krishna says “Amongst rivers I am Ganges”.

In 1992 Mihály Csíkszentmihályi , known to his friends as Chick, published Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience. In an interview with Wired Magazine, he described flow as “being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved, and you’re using your skills to the utmost.” *

Although I had experienced this from time to time, I only began to understand it when I worked with David Royston-Lee on our book Brand You – Turn Your Unique Talents into a Winning Formula. He has applied the concept of Flow in his work with thousands of clients as a business psychologist. (See www.partnersinflow.com.)

A couple of years later, in 2007, Esther & Jerry Hicks published The Astonishing Power of Emotions, a highly accessible book on the Law of Attraction. This is how they explain it: “If you will allow it, this Stream, this fast-moving Current, will carry you downstream to the fulfillment of everything that your life has caused you to create…”

For me, the metaphor of paddling downstream is a balance between maintaining a steady effort and allowing the river to carry you along. Paddling also helps you to steer around various obstacles. If you remain in the present, you’ll enjoy the journey.
